Ikorodu sagamu road. Commuter plying Ikorodu–Sagamu road have cried and appealed to the federal government to repair the road that has been abandoned for a long time as the bad portions of the road continue to be a nightmare.
According to them, the road which has claimed several lives in the past four years can best be described to be a death trap. For instance, moving from Ikorodu roundabout to Odogunyan, one of the communities along the road which is less than 8km could take about two hours especially during rainy season.
An Inhabitant of that area said furiously that he left his work area at Surulere at 5pm hoping to get home latest by 7pm, but could not get home until 1am because of the traffic jam caused by potholes along the road. To crown it all trailers passes through that route and this majorly contributed to the Gridlock and accident. He said, “Once it rained, anybody going to LASPOTECH, Ogijo, Odogunyan, Ita-Oluwo and any other communities along Sagamu road from Ikorodu garage would be in trouble because of the bad road.It was reported that Winners Chapel Church helped in filling some of the potholes with hard core stone and mixed materials which later got bad. some inhabitants of the area said that bureaucracy has hindered the rehabilitation of the road for a long time.they said“This year 2017 would be the 10th times that some engineers have taken the measurement of the road, but no response afterwards. some time ago, the potholes was filled with sand, in few weeks time it got bad through flood and other things we don't know.
Some people gave reports that few top politicians and wealthy inhabitants of the area went to the former Minister of Works and Housing who is an indigene of Ikorodu sometimes ago, on why the contract for the reconstruction of the road was abandoned, he explained that the project could not be executed beyond Oriwu Club area of Ikorodu where it stopped due to lack of funds.
“We appeal to Ambode’s administration to help in repairing the road especially the portion from Ikorodu roundabout to Ita-Oluwo, the boundary between Lagos and Ogun State.”
We urge the federal government to consider the plights of commuters along the road and Inhabitants of that area by re-awarding the road for reconstruction.
